Getting good advice, or good counsel from time to time is a good idea. When I say advice, I mean from a reliable source, a reliable person, and if all possible a godly person. The book of proverbs is known as one of the wisdom books and it has a lot to say about good counsel.
Proverbs 13:10 says, “Pride leads to conflict; those who take advice are wise.”
Proverbs 11:14 says, “Where [there is] no counsel, the people fall; But in the multitude of counselors [there is] safety.”
Proverbs 15:22 says, “Without counsel, plans go awry, But in the multitude of counselors they are established.”
Proverbs 24:6 says, “For by wise counsel you will wage your own war, And in a multitude of counselors [there is] safety.”
I think what the bible is trying to say is that it is wise to get good godly counsel. They say that, “Advice is like snow; the softer it falls, the longer it dwells upon, and the deeper it sinks into the mind.” I would have to agree with that. We need God’s counsel and God’s advice with the decisions we make in life. We live in a world that is constantly bombarding us with its advice. We are told what kind of clothes we should wear. We are told what kind of music we should listen to. We are told what kind of job we should have. We are told what kind of view we should have on marriage and what kind of Christian we should be. Most of this comes from a secular perspective. In the end, it will not guide us in the right direction. Let's seek God's counsel today!
