As I write this I am reminded of the words of John Wesley who said, “Light yourself on fire with passion and people will come from miles to watch you burn.” Heh you guys, how many of you would agree that the church of Jesus Christ needs to catch fire once again? Some shocking statistics tell us that some 6,000 churches close their doors every year. 3200 Americans leave the church every day. Less than 20 percent attend church regularly. Only 15 percent of churches in the United States are actually growing numerically. Only 2 percent of growing churches are effectively winning souls to Christ. And only 9 percent of evangelical Christians tithe to their local church. This should not be the case you guys. If there was ever a time for a mighty revival in our land it is the time that we live in. I heard a story about a local church that was on fire down town. So, the Pastor was standing there as he watched the fire department trying to put the fire out. A man came up and was standing and watching. The Pastor looked at this man and said, “I’ve been inviting you to come to this church for as long as I can remember and you never came once. And now here you are here on this night watching this church burn, why? The man said, “Pastor I hate to admit this but this is the first time in all these years that this church has ever been on fire!” My prayer for each one of us is that we would be a people who not only catch on fire but we would also be the ones who fan the flame in our fellowships. Paul writing to the Romans told them, "not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality."
