I think most of us would agree that the Christian life is filled with ups and downs. We have are good days and we have our bad days. There are days when it is sunny outside and there are days when it’s raining cats and dogs. We have times when we are walking in the Spirit and we have times when we are walking in the flesh. I heard a story of a man who had a serious problem with his language. He use to curse like a sailor and he was also very violent. One day this man gave his life to Christ and he became a Christian. Everything changed for him once he became a Christian. He no longer had the desire to say a curse word, or use fowl language. He stopped flying off the handle for any little thing, so he thought. Years later, He became a Pastor and he thought he would never be tempted with this again. Until he was driving down the street and this little old lady cut him off the road. Something came over him and he totally lost his cool, and cursed the poor little old lady out. He realized at that point that he still had a sinful nature and the love of God hadn’t fully been perfected in his life. We all have times like this wouldn’t you agree? Someone upsets us and we lose our cool. We accidentally say something that we didn’t mean to say. Or we blow our witness some other way. We find hope in verses like Phil 1:6 which says, “Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.” In other words, the longer we walk with the Lord the more complete we become. We may not be sinless, but over time we start to sin less.
