Years ago as a six grade elementary student I had the opportunity to go to six grade camp. It was a whole lot of fun and we were gone for the whole weekend. During our weekend our camp counselor decided to take us on a hike. It seemed like a good idea and supposedly our counselor knew his way around the various trails. During our hike he decided to take us on a little trail that he thought was a better way. An hour into the hike he seemed to have a lost look on his face. His better way turned into a lost way. It was kind of a scary thing being stranded on the side of a mountain in the dark. Eventually we had to be rescued in the middle of the night by some of the camp workers. God’s people need to be rescued. We are like those lost six graders on the side of a mountain waiting for the rescuer Jesus. According to the scriptures the law did not have the ability to save a person. All the law could do was to show a person their need for God. The law shows us a person how lost they are. Paul writing to the Galatians said, “Therefore the law was our tutor [to bring us] to Christ, that we might be justified by faith.” This is why we need Jesus. Jesus is the only one that can save us!
